Thurman Lee Munson (June 7, 1947 – August 2, 1979) was an American catcher in Major League Baseball who played with the New York Yankees from 1969 to 1979. Munson was killed at age 32 while trying to land his personal airplane.

Born in Akron, Ohio to Darrell Vernon Munson and Ruth Myrna Smylie, Thurman grew up in nearby Canton. He graduated from Lehman High School in Canton, where he earned scholarship offers from various colleges due to his standout performances in football, basketball, as well as baseball. ^[1] Munson opted to attend nearby Kent State University on scholarship, where he was a teammate of pitcher and broadcaster Steve Stone. At Kent, Munson joined the Delta Upsilon fraternity. In September 1968 he married Diane Dominick at St. Paul's Parish, Canton.

In the summer of 1967, Munson joined the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League leading his Chatham A's to their first ever league title. In the process Munson hit an amazing .420. To recognize this achievement and his subsequent MLB career, the Thurman Munson Batting award is given each season to the CCBL's best hitter.

David Keith Stewart (born February 19, 1957 in Oakland, California) is a former right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was known for the way he used to stare down batters when pitching to them.

Stewart was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 16th round of the 1975 amateur draft as a catcher, but made his Major League debut on September 22, 1978 as a pitcher, pitching two scoreless innings of relief against the Padres. He did not find his niche in the Major Leagues until some time later. After returning to the minor leagues, he resurfaced in the Majors again in 1981. Teams were unsure how he would be best utilized, and Stewart split time starting and relieving for the Dodgers, Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies in the early to mid-1980s. His nickname at the time was Dave "Smoke" Stewart. In 1986, the Oakland Athletics signed him after he was released by the Phillies. Stewart successfully converted to a starting role with the A's, posting a 9-5 record.

Constantino "Tino" Martinez (born December 7, 1967 in Tampa, Florida) is a retired first baseman in Major League Baseball.

During his career, he has scored over 900 runs, driven in 1271 runs, and hit 339 home runs. He has had 100 RBIs in six seasons and has been on the All-Star team twice.

The Seattle Mariners drafted Martinez in 1988. Martinez began his career playing under Lou Pinella who was a friend of his father. He had several mediocre seasons, but broke out in 1995 when he drove in 111 runs, hit 31 home runs and batted .293. The Mariners clinched the AL West and went on to play in the first season of divisional post season play against the New York Yankees. The franchise's future in Seattle had been in question due to poor attendance, but the Mariners' win against the Yankees in Game 5 changed many minds and gave enough momentum to keep the team in place. Martinez's performance in the 1995 ALDS was key to the Mariners' win.

After carving up the Southeastern Conference, David Price was the No. 1 overall selection by the Rays in 2007. Price didn't sign until the deadline, so he didn't pitch in the minors until this year. Price started out at high Single-A ball in the Florida State League but he quickly moved up to Double-A before a few innings at the end of the year at Triple-A. Price pitched so well in the minors that he earned a September call-up. After 14 innings and an ERA under 2.00, Price found himself on the playoff roster.

Ronald Ames Guidry (pronounced /ˈɡɪdɹi/, born August 28, 1950, in Lafayette, Louisiana; nicknamed "Louisiana Lightning" and "Gator") is a former Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher. He played 14 seasons for the New York Yankees from 1975 through 1988. Guidry was the pitching coach of the New York Yankees from 2006 to 2007.

Guidry began his career pitching briefly in the 1975 and 1976 seasons. In 1977, he began as a relief pitcher but was moved into the starting rotation. He helped lead the New York Yankees to a World Series championship in 1977 and 1978. In those two years combined, Guidry went 4-0 in the postseason with 3 complete games in 5 starts, allowing only nine earned runs in 37 1/3 innings pitched.

Guidry's 18-strikeout performance is usually cited as the launching pad of the Yankee Stadium tradition of fans standing and clapping for a strikeout with two strikes on the opposing batter.

Hiroki Kuroda was drafted in the second round by the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in 1997. After a slow start in his first few years, Kuroda settled into a spot in the rotation and pitched very well. In 2006, he dominated the league, posting an ERA under two and walking just 21 in nearly 189 innings.
